Guaifenesin

Indications:
Expectorant; Used to reduce chest congestion caused by the common cold, infections, or allergies

Dosage:
Adult – 200 to 400 mg orally every 4 hours as needed, not to exceed 2.4 g/day
Paediatric – 100 to 200 mg orally every 4 hours as needed, not to exceed 1.2 g/day

Mechanism of Action:
By increasing sputum volume and making sputum less viscous, guaifenesin facilitates expectoration of retained secretions

Side Effects:
Dizziness and headache
