What is Prakriti Nidaan?

Understanding your body and its predispositions

Every individual is born with a certain set of predispositions as far as their physical health is concern. This is in no way a limiting factor in achieving better well-being as an individual. However, it is essential to understanding what can be the potential roadblocks in achieving such a state of physical well-being. The understating of one’s Prakriti helps one understand what sort of maladies the body is susceptible to, and in turn how to avoid or ameliorate them.

The scriptures of Ayurveda have elaborated at length on the constitution of human beings. Broadly generalized, inside our bodies three different sets of entities are being balanced. Various body processed and equilibria comprise each of these three entities; and to function at our prime, all three entities have to be in harmony.
The entities we speak of are Vaat, Pitt and Kaf. And their harmony is what dictates our health.

An individual with all three entities in perfect harmony would also by definition have perfect health. But in reality that is not possible. There is always an imbalance in them due to external and internal factors. External factors broadly comprise our lifestyle, geographic location and food preferences. Internal factors comprise our genetic predisposition, habits and effects thereof.
As a result of these external and internal factors combined, one has a predisposition towards Vaat, Pitt or Kaf. This predisposition is known as one’s Prakriti. And the diagnosis of one’s Prakriti is known as Prakriti Nidaan.
