Indications:
Antiprotozoal; Used in Trichomoniasis, Giardiasis, Amebiasis, Bacterial vaginosis
Dosage:
Adult – 800 to 2400 mg daily in divided doses
Paediatric – 50 mg/kg (up to 2 gm)
Mechanism of Action:
Toxic free radicals covalently bind to DNA, causing DNA damage and leading to cell death
Side Effects:
Nausea, bitter taste, and metallic taste
