Indications:
Narcotic analgesic; Used in treatment of moderate to severe pain
Dosage:
Adult – 25 to 100 mg (maximum 400 mg daily) in divided doses
Mechanism of Action:
Codeine derivative acts as agonist of pain receptors; norepinephrine and serotonin reuptake blockade in the CNS, which inhibits pain transmission in the spinal cord
Side Effects:
Pruritus, agitation, anxiety, constipation, diarrhoea, hallucination, nausea
