Folic Acid

Indications:
Vitamin Supplement; used in combination with other medications to treat pernicious anaemia

Dosage:
Adult – 400 to 600 mcg daily in divided doses
Paediatric – 200 to 400 mcg daily in divided doses

Mechanism of Action:
Type of B vitamin; Assists in biosynthesis of purines and thymidylates of nucleic acids which in turn play a role in DNA synthesis

Side Effects:
Fever, general weakness or discomfort, reddened skin

Molecular Structure:
FOLIC ACID
