Fluconazole

Indications:
Antifungal; Used to treat fungal infections of the mouth, throat, oesophagus, lungs, bladder, genital area, and the blood

Dosage:
Adult – 50 to 400 mg daily in divided doses
Paediatric – 6 to 12 mg/kg/day

Mechanism of Action:
Highly selective inhibitor of fungal cytochrome P450 dependent enzymes. Loss of normal sterols in fungal cells leads to fungi-static action

Side Effects:
Headache, acid or sour stomach, belching
