Paracetamol

Indications:
Analgesic and Antipyretic; Used in headache, muscle aches, arthritis, backache, toothaches, colds, and fevers; Lacks anti-inflammatory, antiplatelet, and gastric ulcerative effects

Dosage:
Adult – 1 to 4 gm daily in divided doses
Paediatric – 75 mg/kg in 24 hours; not to exceed 3750 mg

Mechanism of Action:
Acts primarily in the CNS, increasing the pain threshold by inhibiting both isoforms of cyclooxygenase enzymes involved in prostaglandin synthesis

Side Effects:
Nausea, vomiting, constipation
