Indications:
Antiprotozoal; Used to treat amoebic dysentery, bacterial vaginosis, Trichomoniasis, giardiasis, and hepatic amoebas; Commonly used in conjunction with Ofloxacin
Dosage:
Adult – 800 to 2400 mg daily in divided doses
Mechanism of Action:
Imidazole derivative; After passive absorption into bacterium cell, forms redox intermediate intracellular metabolites thereby killing the bacteria
Side Effects:
Metallic taste in mouth, gastrointestinal disturbances
