Dextromethorphan

Indications:
Cough Suppressant; Will not treat a cough that is caused by smoking, asthma, or emphysema

Dosage:
Adult – 10-20 mg every 4 hours; maximum: 120 mg/day
Paediatric – 5-10 mg every 4 hours; maximum: 60 mg/day

Mechanism of Action:
Decreases the sensitivity of cough receptors and interrupts cough impulse transmission by depressing the medullary cough centre

Side Effects:
Blurred vision, confusion, difficulty in urination, drowsiness or dizziness
