Indications:
Antibiotic; Used in Tonsillitis, Pneumonia, Bronchitis, Gonorrhoea, Skin Infections
Dosage:
Adult – 200 to 400 mg daily in divided doses
Paediatric – 5 mg/kg/dose maximum daily
Mechanism of Action:
Acts by inhibition of bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cefpodoxime has activity in the presence of some beta-lactamases, both penicillinases and cephalosporinases
Side Effects:
Oral candidiasis, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, nausea
