Azithromycin

Indications:
Antibiotic; Used in treatment of infections such as respiratory infections, skin infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted diseases

Dosage:
Adult – Immediate release 500 mg and extended release 2 gm dose (maximum)
Paediatric – Immediate release 500 mg and extended release 1 gm dose (maximum)

Mechanism of Action:
Azithromycin acts by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible microorganisms and interferes with bacterial protein synthesis. Nucleic acid synthesis is not affected.

Side Effects:
Diarrhoea; Loose stools; Skin rashes
